The Suburban Rail Loop is an orbital rail project, with Stage One (Cheltenham to Box Hill) alone estimated to cost $34.5 billion based on 2021 figures.
Nobody asked for it, nobody needs it, and nobody believes it will be on budget. It is the biggest single decision for the next Government to make. If it goes ahead, our children will be paying it off for years to come.
For residents of Heatherton, the cost isn't just financial. It was promised this land would become a park. Instead, it’s already being turned into a noisy construction site. If the SRL goes ahead, it will change the character of the suburb for good - residents will have trains running in and out of the tunnels around the clock, only metres from their homes, and many thousands of truckloads of tunnel spoil will be removed.
David Limbrick asked the Parliamentary Budget Office to examine the budget implications for cancelling the project. They found that it would save over $21 Billion over the next 10 years.

Take Action Today
Heatherton residents have waited 25 years for the parkland they were promised. They shouldn't have to trade it for a rail yard running 24/7 next to their homes.
