Clyde and Clyde North's population is expected to triple in the next 20 years. Casey Council recognises the urgent need for expanded transport options and has highlighted the Clyde Rail extension as a key infrastructure priority in their Building a Better Casey advocacy plan for the state election.
During peak hour, Clyde commuters already travel up to 30 minutes just to reach Cranbourne station and the car park there is regularly full. Infrastructure Victoria itself projects passenger numbers at Cranbourne will double within five years. The Government has known this is coming and has chosen not to act.
When David Limbrick asked the government about the Cranbourne/Clyde rail extension, they spoke about a bus upgrade. Buses are not a substitute for the rail line Clyde was promised.
This isn't new. Clyde residents have been calling on Parliament to act for many years. Labor's answer has been delay, not delivery, while approving thousands more homes in the area with no matching transport plan.

The Clyde Rail Extension is the proposed extension of the Cranbourne line to serve one of Melbourne's fastest-growing regions.
It would give residents direct rail access to Melbourne for the first time, reducing dependence on an overloaded road network and an already-overflowing Cranbourne station.
At its core, this is about basic fairness: the Government approved the housing growth in Clyde and they should be funding the infrastructure to match it

Solution
Labor has had years, and multiple budgets, to fund the Clyde rail extension. It hasn't. At the Libertarian Party, we believe growth areas deserve the infrastructure they were promised, not another Labor budget that leaves Clyde behind.
Cancel the Suburban Rail Loop project. The huge cost isn't justified compared to other transport priorities.

Redirect that funding toward extending rail to Clyde, a fast-growing suburb currently without train access, so residents get a practical link sooner.
